One such initiative is based on a combination of an emerging W3C standard for Verifiable Credentials (VCs), non-standard decentralized identifiers (DIDs), and distributed ledger technology (DLT) or “blockchain.”¹
In this article, we examine why such proposed technological interventions lack sufficient supporting scientific and public health evidence or legitimacy. As a result, we believe such interventions, if adopted or implemented by public authorities, would pose an unjustified interference with, and serious threat to, our fundamental human rights and civil liberties, in violation of the principles of legality, necessity, and proportionality. In this article, we outline our concerns from a legal, public health-based, and technical perspective.

How Pfizer and the media buried the scandal video on Pfizer’s viral mutation research
2023 | A Pfizer research director falls into the trap of an investigative media project and spills the beans about alleged machinations of his employer. Google censors the video, the established media (worldwide) do not report or their reports cannot be found with search engines. They give Pfizer two and a half days to make a vague and indirect statement. Lesson learned.
Pfizer is a U.S. pharmaceutical company whose experimental mRNA Covid vaccine has been sold and vaccinated billions of times. On Wednesday, Jan. 25, the U.S.-based disclosure platform Project Veritas published a video of Jordon Trishton Walker, a Pfizer employee titled “Director of Research and Development, Strategic Operations – mRNA Scientific Planner,” talking about his work in an apparently buzzed state at a bar or various at a meeting. Walker’s boss’s boss reports to Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla.
The alleged meeting is an undercover journalist from Project Veritas, which regularly works with such methods used in Germany, especially by Günter Wallraff, and is controversial for this, among other things.
What can be heard in the video Walker talks about the fact that one discusses at Pfizer to mutate the Covid virus purposefully, in order to have already the suitable vaccine ready with a spreading of the mutated virus. In the original (translated by me):
“I don’t know if I should say this. One of the things we’re researching is why don’t we just mutate it [coronavirus] ourselves so that we can preemptively develop new vaccines, right? So that’s what we need to do. If we do that, though, there’s a risk that, as you can imagine, nobody wants a pharmaceutical company mutating the damn viruses.”
At the same time, he’s obviously aware of how tricky this is:
“Don’t tell anyone. Promise you won’t tell anybody. The way it [the experiment] would work is we’d introduce the virus into monkeys and get them to infect each other one by one, and we’d collect serial samples from them.”
He expresses confidence that the COVID virus was created this way in a lab in Wuhan:
“”You have to be very controlled to make sure that this virus that you mutate doesn’t lead to something that just spreads everywhere. I suspect that’s how the virus originated in Wuhan, to be honest. It doesn’t make sense that this virus appeared out of nowhere. That’s bullshit.”
“You shouldn’t do gain-of-function research with viruses. Usually you don’t. We can make these select structural mutations to make them stronger. That’s what’s being researched right now. I don’t know how that’s going to work. I hope there are no more outbreaks because, Oh my God.”
Gain-of-function means targeting viruses to grow certain traits.
He also talks about the revolving door between drug companies and regulatory agencies. This, he says, leads those who are supposed to oversee drug companies to be especially lenient because they want excellent-paying breakfast director jobs there afterwards and how great that is for the industry.
How the media (didn’t) react The video and the report on it were seen and read many millions of times within a short period of time. But the mainstream media did not report.
A temporary exception was the Daily Mail tabloid, which had a circulation of millions. But two hours later, the report simply disappeared. The report had said that Pfizer had been asked for comment. The comment seems to have been such that the report was taken off the web without explanation.
The web portal MSN (Microsoft Network) first republished the Dail-Mail report and then just as quickly let it disappear. Instead, MSN disseminated a “factcheck” Newsweek the following day.
Other reports by major established media could not be found until Sunday using the usual search engines. Only alternative media reported. In Germany, a report by Tichys Einblick is found at the top.
Newsweek’s “Factcheck,” published one day after the video, is tendentiously disinformative.
The first four paragraphs deal with Project Veritas and are intended to discredit the platform. The fifth claims that the video does not show what Project Veritas interprets it to show. It later turns out that this claim itself is just a hypothesis based on the insinuation that deliberate editing is used to give the impression that something is being talked about (COVID) that may not have been talked about at all.
In the main body, the “Factcheck” lists the many cuts in the video that should indeed routinely be a cause for some suspicion until the uncut video is available.
On that basis, Newsweek comes to the “preliminary” conclusion that the allegations are unproven. In principle, this is just about legitimate, but:
It does mention that Pfizer was contacted, but nothing more. If Pfizer did not want to confirm or deny the status of the chatting employee, nor did it want to make a statement on Project Veritas’ allegations, then this information would have been mandatory to include in the article. The suspicion is that Pfizer wanted to spare the embarrassment of an explicit mention of a missing denial. A critical story that the person concerned does not deny, even though he has the opportunity to do so, appears considerably more credible.
This omission is made even more perfidious by the fact that the “Factcheck”, which still appeared among the top search engine results on Sunday, had not been updated by then. This is highly unserious.
As if to complete the impression of its high-grade bias, the “factchecker” explains gain-of-function in an openly belittling way:
“Gain-of-function research is a term described in the scientific journal Nature as follows: “In its most innocuous variant (…) it involves mutations that confer new abilities or patterns of expression on a gene, RNA or protein.””
And he concludes with two paragraphs noting that Pfizer has been the victim of false claims by others on many occasions.
What’s missing is any discussion of what can be gleaned from the video as scandalous in any case, and given a lack of denial from Pfizer, may be. Such as what kind of people work there in high rank and what discussions are held there.
No other “fact checkers” became active, such as those from dpa, or Tagesschau-Faktenfinder, or BR-Faktenfuchs or Correctiv.
How Google reacted Google subsidiary Youtube censored the video on the bizarre grounds that it violated COVID misinformation rules.
The Google search engine quickly responded with a warning label above the search results for the search terms “Pfizer video” and “gain-of-function” or “Project Veritas,” stating that the news was highly in flux (which was not true) and that one should not necessarily believe what one reads.
The chattering Walker’s Linkedin page confirming his role at Pfizer could not be found via Google, according to a Just the News report, but could be found using the Brave browser search before it was apparently deleted by Pfizer on Thursday.
On Fox News Thursday night, host Tucker Carlson made light of Google’s “blackout” of the controversy, attributing it to “the power of the pharmaceutical industry.” His producer Gregg Re stated that a Google employee who used to work for Fox News called him and urged him not to run the story. There is no way to verify that. Google did not comment.
How government and regulators did not respond The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the medical regulator, did not comment on its own initiative or in response to media inquiries. The same was true for other relevant agencies and government officials. To Just the News, the FDA referred to Pfizer, which did not comment.
Only Republican Senator Ron Johnson publicly called for a parliamentary investigation into the incident, and Senator Marco Rubio, also a Republican, wrote to Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla demanding an explanation.
How Pfizer was allowed to respond after a major delay With the mainstream, wide-reaching media playing dead on the matter, Pfizer was able to take its time until 8 p.m. local time Friday night, when the company released an indirect, vague, incomplete and arguably partially misleading statement.
Friday night, as everyone in the media business knows, is the time to choose when you want as little publicity as possible for a public announcement. The newspapers for Saturday and Sunday are in the can, and so are the television and radio newscasts for the day. From Saturday on, thinned-out weekend emergency crews deal with the news situation. By Monday, the matter is too old for many media outlets.
The press release makes only indirect and vague reference to the video. It begins with:
“Recently, allegations related to gain-of-function research and directed evolution research have been made at Pfizer, and the company would like to set the record straight.”
No word that these allegations came from a high-ranking Pfizer employee.
The key sentence is that Pfizer did not use such methods “in the ongoing development of the Covid 19 vaccine.” This does not contradict the chatty research director’s statement, highlighted by Project Veritas and others, that discussions are underway at Pfizer about doing such a thing (in the future).
The press release is filled with descriptions of the (legal) mutation research that is being done, especially in connection with the COVID drug Paxlovid, which is practically incomprehensible for laymen.
“In a limited number of cases where a complete virus does not contain known gain-of-function mutations, such a virus can be modified to allow evaluation of antiviral activity in cells. In addition, in vitro resistance selection experiments are being performed in our Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3) secure laboratory on cells incubated with SARS-CoV-2 and nirmatrelvir to assess whether the major protease can mutate to produce resistant strains of virus. It is important to note that these studies are mandated by U.S. and global regulatory agencies for all antiviral products and are being conducted by many companies and academic institutions in the U.S. and around the world.”
This justification based on regulatory requirements is at least questionable, according to my information from experts. Pharmaceutical companies are only required by it to test the efficacy of their COVID drugs against known Variants of Concern, but not to create mutations themselves. That would be crazy.
Regulators could clear this up if they wanted to.
Pfizer writes nothing in the statement to counter the impression that there is a devastating culture of absolute unscrupulousness in the company’s research department. Nor does it announce an internal investigation or promise any countermeasures if there is any truth to what Walker says.
What this piece teaches us about Pfizer Until there is a credible denial or a serious reappraisal of this glimpse into the internals at Pfizer, we may assume that there is a corporate culture there characterized by unscrupulousness and greed. This would confirm what one suspected anyway due to the many scandals in which this company has already been involved.
Further, we learn that Pfizer is obviously very, very powerful if public agencies and the media are handling it with kid gloves like this, or not at all, after the release of a scandal video like this.
What this piece teaches us about regulators What Pfizer Director Walker says in the video is emphatically confirmed by this didactic piece. In the regulatory agencies, no one in the higher ranks apparently wants to mess with a company by being strict with it, from which one could get several times one’s usual salary after leaving government service as a reward for good behavior and/or as a quid pro quo for letting one’s relationships play out.
What this piece teaches us about the media What I find simultaneously most impressive and concerning is the comprehensive non-reaction of the mainstream media to this alleged scandal. Their job would clearly be to compel Pfizer to make a meaningful and comprehensive statement by reporting what can be seen and heard on the apparently authentic video, and critically illuminating how Pfizer is handling it.
That the matter has high news value and would meet with lively interest from the public is beyond question.
The big unanswered question is how Pfizer and possibly others involved managed to create such a comprehensive media blackout. Pfizer’s huge advertising budget will help, of course, but on its own it is unlikely to be enough for such a comprehensive omerta.
The WHO’s and governments’ cooperation with Google and other social media platforms on information about COVID is well known. WHO’s cooperation with Pfizer and the other vaccine manufacturers is also close. In addition, WHO is highly dependent on voluntary grants from major corporations and their foundations. The WHO, with its global influence, would therefore come into question as a player in this piece, as would governments and health authorities concerned about their COVID vaccination campaign and the acceptance of vaccination in general.
Military and intelligence agencies are heavily involved in ostensibly countering foreign disinformation at home, and tend to interpret their mandate very broadly. It has just been revealed in the UK that a branch of the military has been extensively spying on critics of Corona measures and models for the government under this pretext, against government denials and in wide over-extension of the mission.
Therefore, I would not be at all surprised if at some point it turned out that the Pfizer video had been classified by an influential intelligence agency or similar body as a Russian information attack, just as was successfully done with the Hunter-Biden laptop to prevent coverage of its scandalous contents before the U.S. election. Pfizer, at any rate, certainly would not have forgotten to alert all inquiring media to such a classification.
Postscript (Jan. 31): Youtube’s censorship guidance Project Veritas has published an “Urgent Directive” telling content moderators at Google subsidiary Youtube to delete the Pfizer scandal video. Pretext: at one point, the undercover journalist asks the Pfizer director what he thinks about the vaccines being ineffective. This is medical misinformation.

The Pentagon announced the US Army had awarded Pfizer a $3.5 billion contract to manufacture 500 million doses of its COVID-19 vaccine by the end of next year for distribution around the world.
The order matches the number of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine doses purchased by the US government under an agreement announced last year by the Trump administration. Last month, Pfizer announced that the latest batch of 200 million doses would be delivered between October of this year and April of 2022.
In June, Pfizer and Germany-based BioNTech announced that they would provide 500 million doses “at a not-for-profit price” to the feds for distribution to more than 100 countries around the world, most of them in Africa.
“Our partnership with the U.S. government will help bring hundreds of millions of doses of our vaccine to the poorest countries around the world as quickly as possible,” Pfizer Chairman and CEO Albert Bourla said at the time. “COVID-19 has impacted everyone, everywhere, and to win the battle against this pandemic, we must ensure expedited access to vaccines for all.”

(A tissue distribution study of a [3H]-labeled lipid nanoparticle mRNA formulation with ALC-0315 and ALC-0159 after intramuscular administration in Wistar Han rats) disclosed. 3H, also called tritium, is a radioactive beta emitter.
This study was conducted as follows:
Wistar Han rats (21 male and 21 female) each received a single intramuscular dose of [3H]-08-A01-C01 at a total target mRNA dose of 50 μg/animal (1.29 mg/total animal lipid) dose). Blood and tissue samples were collected 15 min, 1, 2, 4, 8, 24, and 48 h after the dose (three animals per sex per time point).
Results:
Radioactivity levels were detected in most tissues, not only at the injection site, for example in tissues of heart, brain, prostate, kidneys, bladder, lymph nodes, small intestine, spinal cord.
In plasma, the highest concentrations were observed 1-4 hours after administration.
Over 48 hours, radioactivity was distributed mainly to the liver, adrenal glands, spleen, and ovaries. Thereby, the levels in these tissues had continuously increased until the last measurement time point 48 hours after administration. What happens after this measurement time point, whether the levels continue to increase or decrease, is unknown due to lack of further measurement.
Conclusion:
The fact that mRNA does not remain at the injection site was already known at the time of submission of the regulatory dossier. As can be seen from the EMA assessment report on Comirnaty (https://www.ema.europa.eu/en/documents/assessment-report/comirnaty-epar-public-assessment-report_en.pdf) dated February 2021, p. 47, this study had also been submitted to the EMA. Despite the distribution in numerous organs evident from this, the EMA saw no reason for further clarification.
