Bill (John Phillip Law), a boy whose father was killed and mother and sister were raped and murdered in front of him by a gang, sets out 15 years later to exact revenge, having used the time to become an expert marksman with a gun. Each of the outlaws bears a characteristic that Bill memorized while watching his family slaughtered and his house set on fire: the first has a tattoo of four aces on his chest, the second a scar, the third one a distinctive earring and the fourth (who was the one who saved young Bill from the burning house) wears a necklace bearing a skull; while he saw the face of the fifth, he never saw the face of the man who saved him from the fire.
As he begins his journey, a gunfighter named Ryan (Lee Van Cleef) is released from a prison after serving 15 years there. He was framed for an armed robbery by the very same men who murdered Bill’s family. When they meet along the way, Ryan gets the better of Bill, who is blinded by vengeance, but he does Bill no harm. In the next town, Ryan asks for a man named Cavanaugh (Anthony Dawson), whom Bill recognized later as the man with four aces tattoo. Bill manages to kill Cavanaugh in a duel, but the more experienced Ryan insists on tracking the other outlaws alone. They cross paths again in Lyndon City, where Ryan meets rich banker named Walcott (Luigi Pistilli) and demands his share of the robbery 15 years ago. Walcott stages a robbery on his own bank and frames Ryan. When the tables are turned later, Bill reciprocates, helping Ryan escape from a jail. An equally determined Bill sets out ahead of him.
Bill reaches a Mexican town, where he recognizes the man with the big earring and guns him down. He is captured by the outlaws, beaten and buried alive from the neck down (he had also recognized the man with the scar and Walcott). Left to die in the hot sun, he is rescued by Ryan, who shoots several men standing guard. Preparing for the gang’s return, Bill notices that Ryan is wearing a necklace with a skull. Ryan admits he was present during the murders, but arrived late and did not participate; he also rescued Bill from the fire. He gives his word that once the outlaws have been dealt with, he will remain to face whatever justice Bill seeks.
In a final shootout during a sand storm, the last remaining man who killed Bill’s family has him dead to rights, only to be killed by Ryan’s thrown knife. Bill nonetheless insists on revenge. Ryan’s gun is empty, so Bill tosses a bullet to him. He has just one bullet left now himself. Ryan turns his back and walks away, daring Bill to shoot him in the back. Bill fires, but it is only to kill a surviving outlaw. A grateful Ryan then watches as he mounts his horse and rides away.

Considered THE archetypal sensationalized anti-drug movie, but it’s really an exploitation film made to capitalize on the hot taboo subject of marijuana use. Like many exploitation films of the time, “Reefer Madness” tried to make a quick buck off of a forbidden subject while skirting the Motion Picture Production Code of 1930. The Code forbade the portrayal of immoral acts like drug use. (The illegal drug traffic must not be portrayed in such a way as to stimulate curiosity concerning the use of, or traffic in, such drugs; nor shall scenes be approved which show the use of illegal drugs, or their effects, in detail.)
The film toured around the country for many years – often being re-edited and re-titled (“Tell Your Children”, “Dope Addict”, “Doped Youth”, “Love Madness”, “The Burning Question”). It was re-discovered in the early 1970s by NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) and screened again as an example of the government’s demonization of marijuana. NORML may have been confused about the film’s sponsorship since one of the film’s distributors, Dwain Esper, testified to the Arizona Supreme Court that “Reefer Madness” was not a trashy exploitation film but was actually sponsored by the U.S. Government – a convincing lie, but a lie nonetheless.
That being said, the film is still quick enjoyable since it dramatizes the “violent narcotic’s … soul destroying” effects on unwary teens, and their hedonistic exploits enroute to the bottom.

An upcoming Ukrainian counteroffensive is the talk of the town. It has been planned for months. NATO officers from the U.S. and England are involved in the planning. According to Reuters, the troops provided include about 40,000 freshly trained soldiers grouped into eight assault brigades. The target is believed to be Zaporozhye and Artyomovsk (Bachmut). The surprise seems to be the number of tanks. In particular, it turned out that among the ready tanks there are already 31 Abrams M1 main battle tanks. Originally, the Western media said that these tanks could be delivered at the earliest towards the end of the year. But now they are there anyway! It may well be that disinformation via the media is part of the Western strategy. The next question that arises is about the occupation. Is it really made up of recruits trained in a kind of rapid boiling course, or was the crew supplied with the tanks? In any case, the latter is very likely, since poorly trained Ukrainian tank crews would devalue the tank weapon. However, NATO would thus run the risk that one or the other tank crew would fall into Russian hands, making it impossible to deny NATO’s direct involvement in the conflict.
At present, an offensive is prevented by the bad weather and especially by the muddy soils in which the heavy Western tanks would sink.
That disinformation is part of the NATO strategy can also be seen in another (false) report in the Western media: allegedly the Ukrainian deployment plans have appeared on the net. The whole convolute is obviously a cleverly made mixture of facts and fiction. Of course, there is a corresponding media frenzy to make the leak seem credible. Well, it can’t get any dumber! Obviously one hopes to dupe Russia!
The leak claims that Kiev plans to equip the eight assault brigades with 253 tanks, more than 380 infantry fighting vehicles and armed personnel carriers, 480 vehicles, 147 artillery pieces and 571 HMMWV “Humvee” armored vehicles to carry out the offensive. When you think about the thousands of tanks that Ukrainian troops had lost so far, this listing seems like a joke.
It may be doubted that the Russian front can be broken through sustainably with this force, if in reality it is not much stronger! If one really believes these numbers, this enterprise seems rather like an act of desperation. This offensive would then be a Ukrainian version of the Battle of the Bulge, but with the shortcoming that the West and Ukraine have been talking about this offensive for months and therefore the element of surprise is modest. This shortcoming is being compensated for by disinformation.
Of course, it could also be that the number of troops reported (eight brigades) is simply grossly understated. One probably has to assume a much higher troop strength.
Russia is of course preparing for this counteroffensive. For example, a 70-kilometer-long trench has been dug in the Zaporizhzhya oblast.
The Russian army is also not lazy in other ways to hinder the offensive. For example, it was announced that the Russian army had destroyed a warehouse with 70,000 tons of fuel. However, one wonders why there is still an intact refinery in Ukraine at all? In any case, destroying some refineries would be less effort than the many substations that have apparently been repaired in the meantime.
Undoubtedly, a counteroffensive would be Selensky’s last attempt to turn the tide. If this attempt fails, the Ukrainian army is finished.
Looming Crisis How Commercial Real Estate could be the next domino to fall The commercial real estate market is in the midst of a perfect storm that could potentially create a financial crisis of epic proportions. Interest rates are soaring, while office vacancies have hit a record high. With $1.5+ trillion in commercial real estate debt set to mature by 2025, refinancing these loans in the face of these challenges could prove to be an insurmountable task. The commercial real estate industry is estimated to have a market size of ~$20T. To put that in perspective, the value of U.S. commercial real estate is more than half of the market value of all U.S. publicly traded companies (stocks). Traditionally, when commercial real estate debt matures, refinancing is accompanied by a reduction in interest rates. But with interest rates on mortgages more than doubling in just two years, the prospect of refinancing these loans has become increasingly daunting. Compounding the problem is the fact that smaller banks have taken on a higher percentage of commercial real estate loans. While this trend has been evident for some time, new data reveals that small banks now hold 27% of commercial real estate debt, up from 17% in 2017. In fact, smaller banks rely on these loans as much of their business is derived from commercial real estate.

The material, which is dated March 1, does not include detailed battle plans but does provide a glimpse into the Ukrainian militaryโs status as of five weeks ago. The documents, which seem to have appeared on the internet as early as March 1 and 2, were later posted to Twitter and Telegram.
Later on Friday, another trove of classified information was published on 4chan, an online anonymous message board. More than 100 pages were posted, which included sensitive U.S. briefing slides on topics like China, Indo-Pacific military issues, the Middle East, and terrorism, according to the New York Times. One slide was labeled โSecret/No Forn,โ meaning not to be shared with foreign governments. A senior intelligence official who spoke
to the Times called this leak a โnightmare for the Five Eyesโ intelligence alliance, which is composed of the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
These documents look incredibly suspect. Itโs established that at least one section is doctored. They purport to give detailed and high figures for US personnel in Ukraine and US & allied special forces in Ukraine, which is implausible. Treat with caution.
As of now, itโs unclear who published any of the classified information and why, though the U.S. Defense Department has launched an investigation. Pentagon officials have acknowledged that they are legitimate Defense Department documents; however, some of the content seems to have been altered to inflate Ukraineโs casualty numbers. U.S. defense officials indicate this may be part of a push to further Moscowโs disinformation efforts; pro-Russian online accounts have actively publicized the documents since their release. โAs many of these were pictures of documents, it appears that it was a deliberate leak done by someone that wished to damage the Ukraine, U.S., and NATO efforts,โ Mick Mulroy, a former senior Pentagon official, told the Times.

Former wife of Kazakhstanโs current president, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Very little has been known about Tokayeva, who is now divorced from him.
She is not publicly known to have any business interests, other than registering to rent out property in Moscow. Her husband was a public servant for his entire career, holding high-level positions like foreign minister and prime minister during the period she held her account. He also was not publicly known to own any businesses. Half a year before the account was closed, he became director-general of the United Nationsโ Geneva office.
The coupleโs son Timur Tokayev, who attended an elite boarding school in Geneva, had power of attorney over the account starting from the age of 14. As of January 2022, he had three apartments in the area.
The former wife of Kapar Kurmanaliev, who led Kyrgyzstanโs Ministry of Natural Resources and the State Agency of Geology and Mineral Resources. Kurmanaliev had oversight over all the mining licenses awarded in Kyrgyzstan โ a position he was accused of abusing.
After a 2010 uprising that ousted the Kyrgyz government from power, Kurmanaliev escaped the country. He was then placed on an Interpol wanted list and charged with illegally issuing licenses to private mining companies. Although he never returned to Kyrgyzstan, he was convicted in absentia in 2014 and sentenced to 12 years in prison. He is now living in Latvia.
He strongly denies any corruption or misconduct, and told OCCRP that he had stopped living with his wife in 2005 and her bank account had nothing to do with him.
The former vice minister of electric power under Hugo Chรกvez faces open lawsuits for corruption, money laundering and embezzlement in Venezuela, Andorra, and Spain, and he has been indicted in the United States on similar charges. Described by one jailed banker as a โcancerโ whose actions amounted to โextortionโ, he is accused of having received large bribes in exchange for granting contracts with the state oil firm, Petrรณleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA).
He and his family were refused Swiss residency in 2021 on the grounds that his presence would threaten public security and risk the countryโs reputation. Spanish authorities found that money from the kickbacks moved through one of his Credit Suisse accounts.
Known in Venezuela as the โInsurance Tsarโ, he amassed a fortune thanks to a close relationship with the government of former President Hugo Chรกvez.
His name appeared in a March 2015 money laundering scandal at Banco de Madrid, and then in a second scandal involving hundreds of millions of dollars stolen from the state oil company and laundered through Banca Privada dโAndorra. The following year, the Dominican Republic placed him under house arrest on separate money laundering charges.
Omar Suleiman served as head of Egyptโs feared intelligence services during the regime of President Hosni Mubarak. He later took on diplomatic duties and was eventually appointed Mubarakโs vice president, shortly before the leader stepped down in the wake of the 2011 protests against the regimeโs corruption and political repression.
Members of his family had at least two Credit Suisse accounts, one of which remained open after his death in 2012.
