Elija, ein Mann unerschütterlicher Hingabe an Gott, hatte lange das Volk zur Wahrheit und Gerechtigkeit aufgerufen – inmitten von Zweifeln und Götzendienst. An diesem schicksalhaften Tag bezeugten die Himmel selbst seine Heiligkeit.
Flavius Josephus, der berühmte Historiker des ersten Jahrhunderts, hätte die Szene wohl mit ehrfürchtiger Würde beschrieben: Als Elija und Elisa gingen, erhellte ein plötzliches Leuchten den Himmel. Ein feuriger Wagen, gezogen von flammenumhüllten Pferden, stieg herab – als göttliches Zeichen des Bundes zwischen Gott und Seinem Propheten.
