The Fence has its own LinkedIn profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A young man named Samir, who was born on the wrong side of the Fence according to people who had never been hungry, once looked at the Fence and asked his mother, \u201cWhy is there a castle wall around a city that has a Burger King?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His mother, who was very wise, said, \u201cBecause Europe is afraid of Burger Kings it cannot control.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So it goes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week, a delegation of Tralfamadorians materialized in Ceuta\u2019s main square, the Plaza de \u00c1frica. They were seven feet tall, shaped like toilet plungers, and had eyes that perceived all moments simultaneously. They were very polite. They asked for directions to the center of the universe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A local tour guide named Miguel, who had been day-drinking since 10 a.m. because existence is very tiring, pointed toward the Fence. \u201cThe center of the universe,\u201d he said, \u201cis on the other side of that. He did not look up. \u201cThe solution,\u201d he said, \u201cis to turn the Fence into a library. Fill it with books. Let people read.
